Crisis in Syria: help deliver life-saving aid to children

For almost 14 years, children and families in Syria have been living under the constant threat of violence, displacement and emotional distress. Prolonged conflict, economic instability, disease outbreaks and multiple earthquakes in early 2023 have left over 7.5 million children in need of urgent humanitarian support.

With the recent escalation of violence in late November 2024, UNICEF has reiterated its commitment to remain on the ground, working alongside our partners to deliver life-saving assistance to children and their families.

The humanitarian situation in Syria

For many children in Syria, conflict is the only thing they know. More than a decade of war has caused massive damage to critical infrastructure, mass displacement, and severely limited access to essential services, including safe water, sanitation, health and nutrition, protection, and education.

  • Around 85 percent of families in Syria struggle to make ends meet due to the ongoing economic crisis.
  • Nearly 13.6 million people require access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services.
  • 50% of the primary healthcare system in Syria remains offline.
  • Over 2.45 million children are out of school, and over 1 million children are at risk of dropping out, particularly those with disabilities.

HELP REACH CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN SYRIA WITH CRITICAL, LIFE-SAVING AID

How will my donation help children in Syria?

The children of Syria deserve to live in peace and security, and we must do everything in our power to protect their lives and their futures. Across Syria and in the neighbouring countries, UNICEF, thanks to the generous support of our donors and partners, continue to work to protect children, and help them cope with the impact of conflict.

UNICEF is on the ground delivering critical humanitarian assistance, including life-saving vaccines, emergency healthcare and safe drinking water. We are also working to ensure children can continue learning by improving school facilities, training teachers and delivering supplies.

  • Reached over 1 million people with nutrition services;
  • Helped over 500,000 children access quality education opportunities;
  • Reached over 400,000 children and caregivers with child protection services;
  • Helped over 700,000 people gain access to sanitation services.
