How your support is changing children’s lives

Whether it is providing safe and clean water or setting up safe spaces where children can learn, play and just be a child, your support allows us to be ready to ensure children in emergencies receive life-saving aid at a moment's notice.

At a UNICEF-supported shelter in Misyaf, Syria, children affected by the February 2023 earthquakes are taught how to manage their emotions after traumatic events. “I felt calm when I tried this exercise. I learned how to combine things that make me angry, then get rid of them in one go,” explained 10-year-old Alma, who is pictured doing an activity with other girls at the shelter.

Your support helps children like Alma find strength and solace despite adversity.

Now, Marie wants to spread the message to her family and friends that this new vaccine is available and free of charge: "I know that other mothers will be informed by health workers in the community. I'd also like to do my bit to ensure that children are as well protected as possible against this disease, which causes a great deal of fear among parents." 

Cameroon is the first African country to deploy the malaria vaccine. Thanks to your support, UNICEF was able to help with the procurement, transportation, and distribution of the vaccine, as well as the organization of training programs for healthcare personnel.

Solar-powered safe water in Venezuela 
Your support helped UNICEF build and install the first solar-powered water treatment plant to be in the remote community of San Francisco de Guayo, Venezuela. It is providing clean and safe water to 10,000 people living in the community and surrounding areas. The water treatment plant, since it does not rely on the electrical grid, ensures greater resilience to climate change and can be easily maintained. 

E-Tracking vaccinations in Bangladesh 
Thanks to the creation of a UNICEF-supported mobile tracking app, health workers can protect thousands of children living in the hardest-to-reach areas of Bangladesh from measles and rubella. Thanks to your generosity, over 36 million children in Bangladesh have been vaccinated against measles and rubella with the help of the app.

Hydroponic farming in Ethiopia 
In drought-prone Ethiopia, with help from donors like you, UNICEF is supporting hydroponic farming — a method where people can grow plenty of vegetables with small amounts of water. This will allow the growing of vegetables year-round, potentially providing a consistent source of healthy food for children in Ethiopia.
