Migrant Crisis in Central America and Mexico
UNICEF is working with partners to protect vulnerable migrant children and families wherever they may be in the region. We urgently need your help to reach more children with emergency support.
Fleeing for their lives and futures
Migrant families from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico are fleeing crushing poverty, gang warfare, trafficking and other threats in search of safety and a chance at a better life.
Children travelling alone are the most vulnerable and they risk facing even more hardship on their journeys to safety. The photos of drowned 2-year-old Valeria and her father Oscar are stark reminders of the dangers migrants face when fleeing desperate situations.
UNICEF is on the ground supporting migrant children every step of the way, in their home countries, along migration routes and in countries of destination. We are ensuring emergency support and essential services are available whenever they need them.
UNICEF is also working with governments and partners to understand and tackle the root causes of the crisis. We are advocating to safeguard the rights, well-being and dignity of migrant and refugee children.
Help migrant children stay healthy and safe
Children uprooted should not be in dangerous environments that cause toxic stress and irreparable harm to their health and development.
Your donation will give migrant children life-saving vaccines, malnutrition treatment and medical supplies. It will also provide them with education and protection support so that their childhoods and futures are not lost in the chaos of being uprooted.
A child is a child first and foremost. No matter where they are or where they are from, all children have the right to health, protection and education.
We urgently need your help to reach children and families with life-saving essentials. Give them the chance to survive and rebuild their lives today. Children and their families are relying on you.
