Salary Range:$70,500 to $85,500 annually with benefits and 3 weeks paid vacation
Work Location:Toronto
Work Environment:UNICEF Canada currently operates under a Flexible-Hybrid model that requires team members to attend the office at least 2 days/week.

Position Description

The Senior Data Analyst is responsible for delivering accurate and actionable data to support programs that drive fundraising growth, strengthen supporter engagement, and inform organizational decision-making. This role combines technical expertise with strategic business analysis to optimize the organization’s use of technology, data, and fundraising systems.

A key member of the Business Intelligence team, the Senior Data Analyst contributes to managing UNICEF Canada’s Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) system, using it as a source of truth to support program management, performance measurement, and key donor insights.

The Senior Data Analyst uses their strong Structured Query Language (SQL) and Business Intelligence (BI) visualization skills to build and maintain dynamic dashboards, develop a variety of reports, and generate sophisticated data pulls to provide audience segmentation and identify supporter engagement activities. They work closely with our fundraising, marketing, and IT teams to identify trends, develop insights, and optimize donor engagement strategies.

This role is ideal for a data-driven professional who combines technical proficiency with a strategic mindset, ensuring that data and technology are leveraged to maximize fundraising impact and deepen supporter engagement.

Responsibilities

Data Delivery & Insights (40%)

  • Build, test, and run SQL queries to deliver accurate and actionable data extracts for engagement and solicitation activities (e.g., Direct Mail, Telephone, Email).
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to analyze fundraising and donor data, provide data-driven insights including trends, patterns, and opportunities for growth, and recommend technology solutions to improve efficiency in donor engagement and fundraising operations.
  • Coordinate and manage data request processes to ensure requested audiences, segmentations, and exclusions are clearly defined and understood.
  • Deliver data that follows agreed-upon data format and protocols.
  • Follow standards and best practices when developing queries and data extracts, ensuring data accuracy and completeness.

Business Intelligence Reporting (50%)

  • Create clear and compelling visualizations (charts, graphs, dashboards) using Power BI to communicate key metrics and insights.
  • Build, maintain, and optimize Power BI reports/dashboards, data models, and data pipelines.
  • Work with key stakeholders to map and refine business processes related to donor acquisition, retention, and stewardship.
  • Maintain SSRS reports in UNICEF Canada’s reporting portal and drive the report migrations to Power BI platform.
  • Generate ad hoc insight reports as required, following standards and best practices when developing reports, datasets, data models, ensuring reusability, and troubleshoot all BI reports.
  • Use advanced Excel skills and other tools to further manipulate and present data effectively.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation and deliver user training for new BI products and system updates.

System Maintenance and Administration (10%)

  • Manage and maintain Power BI systems, including published reports/dashboards, data models, pipelines, data refreshing schedules, gateways, access, etc.
  • Maintain UNICEF Canada’s back-end reporting SQL Server database as a source of business insight.
  • Manage and maintain databases, ensuring data integrity and security.
  • Ensure scheduled data automation and update tasks run correctly and carry out first-level troubleshooting & fixes.
  • Collaborate with data integration developer and IT teams to optimize data collection and storage processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, IT, Business) with a minimum of 5 years’ work experience as a Data Analyst or in a similar role. Experience in fundraising and development is an asset.
  • Strong SQL proficiency, including ability to perform complex data querying for data extraction and manipulation, building and maintaining SQL tables, views and stored procedures, and optimizing SQL scripts
  • Proficient working with data warehouse, creating data models based on reporting needs 
  • Strong hands-on experience with Power BI, including designing, implementing, and automating reports, dashboards and apps (Power BI certification would be an asset).
  • Proficiency in writing DAX formula and/or M code (Power Query) for measures creation and data transformation.
  • Knowledge of Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service, and report/dashboard deployment, sharing, security, and maintenance.
  • Experience working with SQL Server database and services (i.e., SSRS, SSIS) and troubleshooting database issues.
  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g. formulas - VLOOKUP, nested IF statements), pivot tables, data validation.
  • Familiarity with ETL processes and tools for data preparation and transformation.
  • Experience in data analysis programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and good knowledge of machine learning and predictive modeling.
  • Strong data analysis skills and the ability to quickly learn new data models and translate business requirements into actionable insights.
  • Ability to create compelling and effective visualizations to convey complex information.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including data integration developers, data analysts, IT, fundraising teams and marketing.
  • Experience in planning and delivering user training for new BI products.
  • Ability to create and maintain process-related documentation.
