Celebrating Friends of UNICEF
July 30 is International Day of Friendship, and that means something big here at UNICEF! Sometimes challenges can seem insurmountable before friends light the way. And that’s exactly what our incredible supporters do. The act of donating to UNICEF Canada means your friendship extends a helping hand to millions of children around the world, including in 200 countries where humanitarian crises pose extreme risk.
During emergencies last year, donor support helped UNICEF assess and treat 120 million children for malnutrition, vaccinate 30 million children for measles, provide 20 million children with access to education, and so much more.
Behind every results number are real children and families who are holding on as their world falls apart. It’s about kids like 10-year-old Naba in war-affected Sudan, who fled Khartoum to find stability, nurturing, friendship and fun at a UNICEF-supported safe space (Makanna).
Watch Naba’s video tour of this incredible Makanna helping more than 630 children receive safe water, counselling, education including e-learning, sports and creative arts activities. Stories like this one show how your compassion helps create an entire circle of care around children in times of fear and uncertainty.
Sudan currently has the largest child displacement crisis in the world.
Following more than one year of escalated conflict, close to 4 million children have been displaced as water shortages and a likely famine cause more danger. UNICEF solutions like this Makanna are giving hope, helping to fulfil children’s essential needs, and protecting their rights.
For every humanitarian crisis we respond to, every donation transforms into urgent relief and long-lasting support for children and their communities. UNICEF is the world’s largest humanitarian organization for children, working tirelessly in the most complex situations. Our work is funded entirely by donations. On International Day of Friendship, and every day, thank you to all our supporters for being there. We simply can’t do this without you.
