In Sudan, a catastrophic combination of conflict and displacement has resulted in famine in the Zamzam camp, sheltering hundreds of thousands of people in the North Darfur regions. Throughout the country, an estimated 730,000 children are projected to experience severe acute malnutrition this year. UNICEF water pumps are the most widely used pump around the world. In the 1970s, UNICEF developed a water pump that was inexpensive and easy to use. It remains in use today.
Cholera has been surging globally since 2021, with high fatality rates.18 The rise in cases is driven by lack of access to safe water and sanitation, as well as difficulty in quickly detecting and stopping outbreaks.
Your generosity enables UNICEF to work internationally, but did you know that UNICEF Canada also helps youth in Canada speak out on issues that matter to them? More than 2,000 youth across Canada have joined U-Report, UNICEF’s digital platform that allows youth to anonymously give input on issues and decisions that affect them. As U-Reporters, young people have opportunities to be part of the changes they want to see in Canada and help shape Canada’s public policies.
