Investing in Potential
Girls Empowerment in Mali

By supporting children to have access to education and child protection services, our collaboration with UNICEF will provide a better future to children away from artisanal mining sites and child labour.

How we’re working together

Although education in Mali has been improving over the last decade, more than two million children between ages 5–17 still do not go to school. In 2019, B2Gold entered into a partnership with UNICEF to address these challenges and provide a better future for children, especially girls, in the Kenieba district.

This partnership will benefit the region by setting up mobile centres that are adapted to the specific needs of vulnerable girls and boys living in mining communities. UNICEF will also work in close collaboration with local government services to build their capacity to improve the well-being of girls and boys in the future.

Partnership Goals

1. Young children under the age of 5 are protected and have access to daycare.

2. Young girls have access to education and training opportunities.

3. Adolescent girls are protected and empowered.
